Lake Wenatchee State Park Elopement with a Siberian Husky | N. & A.
How the Couple Chose to Elope
N. and A. both are from Seattle and met at work. Their relationship developed gradually, and when it came time for engagement, the couple decided to capture this important moment with a photographer—that's how they found me.
The newly engaged couple was planning a traditional wedding celebration, but after learning more about the possibilities that an elopement offers, they decided this was the right choice for them. First, the intimate atmosphere of this type of wedding helps preserve the memory of such an important moment without wasting energy on the hustle and bustle that accompanies a traditional celebration. Second, an elopement is a great format for celebrating an important day with furry family members: N. and A. have two dogs.
Unfortunately, one pup had to stay home because he's too active, but their Siberian Husky happily participated in the ceremony as an honored guest. This was made possible with help from a relative (I always ask couples who want to elope with pets to have someone nearby who can look after them).
For our backdrop, we chose Lake Wenatchee State Park in February. During this time, there's plenty of snow, and the white blanket covering the mountains, with trees peeking through, creates a magical atmosphere.
Lake Wenatchee Elopement Activities
We started with getting ready right in nature, followed by the first look, and then the ceremony, which was officiated by my husband and assistant, Pasha.
After, they had a commitment ceremony—a peanut butter and jelly sandwich ritual. The bride spread jelly on one side, the groom did the same with peanut butter on the other, then they joined the sandwich together and took bites simultaneously from opposite ends. Later, we lit a small fire pit and toasted bread and marshmallows. The honored guest received a jar of peanut butter as a reward for his good behavior.
As dusk fell and it began to get dark, we armed ourselves with flashlights to capture romantic shots with the wavering flames.
The day ended with a dance in the light of car headlights and a champagne shower.
